Building upon significant research and development capacity and recognizing the potential of upcoming technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things, Information Processing, Machine Learning and Edge and Cloud Intelligence, Faculty of Technical Sciences of the University of Novi Sad (UNS) established the Centre for intelligent COmmunications, Networking and Information proCessing (ICONIC). ICONIC centre brings together 16 academic staff members and a number of PhD and postdoctoral researchers organized into three research groups:
ICONIC researchers possess expertise in the field of wireless communications, mobile cellular networks, 4G and 5G technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), distributed signal and information processing, machine learning and artificial intelligence, cloud and mobile edge computing, reconfigurable hardware design and prototyping, embedded systems, system design and verification. Thorough joint development projects, ICONIC is firmly integrated with the surrounding environment of a large number of innovative SMEs and enterprises providing solutions in the domain of Smart Grids, Smart Buildings, Connected Health and Well-Being, Cloud and IoT technologies, etc.
The long-term vision of ICONIC centre is to become a regional hotspot for advanced communication and information processing technologies, in particular for research and development in the domain of technologies and services for 5G and beyond. Through organization of workshops, seminars, lectures and similar events, ICONIC will raise awareness of young students and future researchers, but also of the general public, on upcoming wireless and information processing technologies that are predicted to have significant impact on our society. ICONIC is committed to development of own wireless and information processing testbed capacity that will serve the researchers to develop their ideas towards increased technology readiness implementation, thus becoming major source of ICT experts, innovation and know-how.
